RICE & SPICE
I founded Rice & Spice, a magazine and collective by Asian American youth, in the summer of 2020 before my freshman year of high school. As a space for creative expression, Rice & Spice fosters a diverse community that celebrates our generation’s voices and stories.
Rice & Spice is a print and online publication with a regularly updated website for writing and visual work. Starting out as an Instagram page and a Google submission form, Rice & Spice has since then grown into an international community as we continue to champion our starting mission of advocating for the representation of Asian American youth’s creative work in media. Along with 13K+ followers on social media, 43K+ annual website page views, and up to 470K+ monthly web impressions, I lead a team of 20+ nationally-based writers, photographers, editors, designers, artists, and videographers. I have built relationships with companies, including Netflix, Universal Music Group’s °1824, The Oriel Company, Shore Fire Media, Persona PR, and Tremendous Communications.
Aside from creative submissions, Rice & Spice has interviewed both established and rising Asian voices in various creative industries, including the cast of Lionsgate’s film “Joy Ride” (Stephanie Hsu, Ashley Park, Sherry Cola, and Sabrina Wu), Sean Kaufman, star of the Amazon Studios’ show “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” lifestyle YouTuber Ur Mom Ashley, South Korean boy band P1Harmony, among others. We frequently cover concerts, New York Fashion Week, film and music festivals, and other events, including South by Southwest, Head in the Clouds, Outside Lands, and Austin City Limits.
Rice & Spice collaborated with Adobe for a feature in their 2023 APIHM social media campaign. We were also featured on Universal Music Group's °1824’s Instagram for APIHM. We have been recognized by NBC News, Adolescent Content, Local Wolves, Asian American Collective, among others.
